Medical Billing & Accounts Receivable Specialist II

General Responsibilities:  Run aged AR reports, research outstanding denied claims, follow up with insurance, file appeals, as well as identifying trends or patterns with denials and/or non-payments.

Essential Duties:

  • Generate and review outstanding Aged Receivable reports for BHS and Out-Patient.
  • Export information into Microsoft Excel for analysis
  • Review unpaid claims and research reasons for delay.
  • Research appeal and resolve claim rejections, underpayments, over payments and denials with payers.
  • Assist with the process of appeals by gathering information needed for A/R Supervisor to file the appeal.
  • Communicate payment or denial trending that impacts revenue to supervisor
  • Serve as backup for other accounting department functions as assigned.

 Other Duties:  

  1. Assist the supervisor and team with various administrative tasks to support department operations as directed; may also be assigned special projects.
  2. Perform tasks which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, but which may be altered or redesigned depending upon individual circumstances.
  3. Meet on-going requirements to maintain current training certifications.

Education/Training: High School diploma required, Associates Degree or certificate preferred

Skill(s): Comprehensive understanding of accounts receivable management in a healthcare setting.

  • Proficient in Medical Billing, Excel and Electronic Health Record (EHR) software applications.
  • Ability to classify, assemble, analyze and prepare reports from financial data. 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Able to multi-task and meet deadlines. Excellent communication, data entry and problem-solving skills required. 
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, Outlook

Experience: At least two plus years of Medical Billing and Accounts Receivable experience required, non-profit background preferred.
