General Responsibilities:  Responsible for eligibility and coverage verification for Behavioral Health Services clients, verify billing services, create 837 batch for billed services,  and resubmissions for services, rejection investigation and check reconciliation.

Education/Training: High School diploma required or equivalent business experience and non-Profit back ground preferred.

Skill(s): Proficient in Medical Billing, Excel and Electronic Health Record (EHR) software applications. Ability to classify, assemble, analyze and prepare reports from financial data.  Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Able to multi-task and meet deadlines. Excellent problem-solving skills.

Experience: Two years Medical Billing and Accounts Receivable experience preferred.

 

Essential Duties:

  • Manage incoming explanation of benefits for all insurance companies. Read and interpret explanation for benefits to determine course of action.
  • Download 835/ERA payment files from clearinghouse and convert into software format.
  • Post payments to electronic health record software, run reports to verify payments match, create cash receipt for accounting staff to distribute payment accordingly.
  • Run billing reports to follow up on claim status and determine if payments have been paid up to contract limits.

 

  • Create electronic 835 files for secondary billing and upload to clearinghouse for processing.
  • Research and resubmit denied insurance claims for all insurance payers. Make calls as necessary to insurance companies to resolve denials issues.
  • Help to process appeals by gathering needed information and creating CMS 1500 forms for the appeal.
  • Follow up on outstanding claim issues on a weekly basis and communicate any issues to Accounts Receivable Supervisor.
  • Serve as backup for other accounting department functions as assigned.

 

 Other Duties:  

  • Assist the supervisor with various administrative tasks to support department operations as directed; may also be assigned special projects.
  • Perform tasks which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, but which may be altered or redesigned depending upon individual circumstances.
  • Meet on-going requirements to maintain current training certifications.
