General Responsibilities

The Clinical Specialist is responsible for assisting the Physician, CRNP, RN and clinical staff in performing their duties to meet the medical needs of individuals served at Indian Creek Foundation.   The Clinical Specialist will perform administrative and clinical tasks under the supervision of a licensed health care provider.  The Clinical Specialist is responsible for the coordination and completion of medical appointments, pre-appointment paperwork and direct care services as needed.

Essential Duties

  1. Facilitate with outside providers the scheduling of specialty clinics in Health &Wellness Center.
  2. Prepare paperwork for specialty clinics (podiatry, dental, and vision) in H&W Ctr.
  3. Copy completed paperwork from specialty appointments and distribute to appropriate nurse.
  4. Schedule vision, dental, and podiatry appointments for Residential/CBS clients.
  5. Schedule annual physicals for Residential clients.
  6. Prepare psychotropic medication review form for Residential/CBS clients.
  7. Track inventory of medical supplies in Clinic, H&W Center, and reorder supplies as needed.
  8. Prepare and distribute paperwork for scanning.
  9. Send incontinence supply order to Pharmacy monthly.
  10. Coordinate disposal of medical waste.
  11. Dispose of medications and blister cards monthly and as needed.
  12. Coordinate and complete paperwork for annual dental rehab appointments
  13. Schedule all clinic appointments and update Credible schedule daily.
  14. Escort clients to exam room.
  15. Prepare and maintain examination and treatment areas; keep all areas neat and clean.
  16. Prepare client for and assist with nursing assessments.
  17. Obtain diagnostic and lab results as requested.
  18. Assist Health Care Provider during examinations as needed.
  19. Clean instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies.
  20. Obtain vital signs and weights for clients as requested by Nursing; record in Credible.
  21. Maintain the confidentiality of client information.
  22. Follow universal precautions to protect self and clients.
  23. Schedule medical appointments (also includes outpatient diagnostic testing) for Residential/CBS clients (excludes vision, podiatry, dental and physicals). 
  24. Arrange lab work with Atlantic Diagnostic Labs on a weekly basis; arrange other lab work as needed.  Meet ADL phlebotomist at group homes to assist as necessary.
  25. Prepare appointments paperwork from Credible schedule for program nurse to complete prior to appointments
  26. Maintain insurance claims file for Residential/CBS clients. Provide Associate Director of Residential with client billing info and insurance updates.
  27. Take clients to outside appointments as needed.
  28. Follow universal precautions to protect self and clients.
  29. Maintain the confidentiality of client information.
  30. Provide coverage for Clinical Specialist I position as needed

Education/Training:   High School Diploma; GED; Preferred certification as Certified Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant from an accredited program.

Skill(s): Ability to read and write in English, moderate mathematics skills required; proficient interpersonal relations and communication skills; auditory and visual skills; satisfactory completion of pre-employment physical exam and drug test as required. Completion and clearance of a criminal background check and child abuse clearance. Valid driver's license with a clear three-year driving record.

Physical Requirements: Ability to perform the physical duties required of Direct Care Worker. Must have adequate mobility that requires frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching (vertical and horizontal), using fingers, hands, feet, legs and torso in providing various care; and operate an vehicle. The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, including transferring of client.
